In the water

What toddlers learn

At this age, the goal is not laps or perfect strokes. It is comfort, safety and joy in the water. Over their early lessons, your toddler will gently work on skills like getting used to the water and enjoying being in it, safe entry and exit from the pool, blowing bubbles and getting their face wet without fuss, floating on their back with support, kicking and gentle gliding with the coach's help, and simple water-safety habits like holding the wall.

These early skills are the foundation everything else is built on. A toddler who feels safe and happy in the water becomes a child who learns to swim quickly later on, and can move up to our children's swimming lessons when they are ready.

We come to you

Lessons at your own condo pool

For a toddler, a familiar setting makes all the difference. We come to you. If your condominium has a pool, your coach teaches your child right there, in water they may already have paddled in with you. Learning somewhere quiet and familiar, with you close by, takes the stress out of those very first lessons. There are no crowded public lanes, no strangers watching, and no long journey with a tired toddler before or after. You simply head down to your own pool at a time that suits your family.

If your condo pool is not suitable, we will help arrange a private pool near you. See our condo swimming lessons for how the come-to-you coaching works.

Never rushed

Gentle, playful, and never rushed

Small children learn best through play, so that is exactly how we teach. Songs, games and lots of encouragement turn each lesson into something your toddler looks forward to rather than dreads. Your coach keeps every step within your child's comfort zone and only moves on when they are ready. Nothing is ever forced. If your little one is having a wobbly day, we simply slow down and keep it fun. Confidence that is built gently is confidence that lasts, and it is far more valuable than pushing a toddler to do something before they are ready.

Readiness first

The right age to start

Toddlers between two and four years old are at a wonderful stage for learning. They are curious, they love to copy what they see, and they are old enough to follow simple instructions while still being perfectly happy to play. Every child is different, and readiness matters far more than an exact birthday. Some toddlers take to the water straight away, while others need a few sessions of splashing and games before they feel settled, and that is completely normal. Because the coaching is private, your coach simply meets your child where they are and moves at their pace.

Parents welcome

You are part of the lesson

With toddlers, a parent nearby is part of what makes them feel safe, and we welcome that. Especially in the early sessions, your coach may involve you in the water or have you close at the poolside so your child feels secure. Over time, as your toddler's confidence grows, they rely on you a little less and trust the coach a little more. You will also pick up simple, safe ways to keep practising between lessons, so the progress carries on during ordinary family pool time.

Why DSwim

Why parents in Singapore choose DSwim

DSwim was built to make quality swimming lessons convenient, comfortable and personal. For toddlers, that means a coach who comes to your own pool, undivided one to one attention, and a gentle approach that always puts your child's confidence first. Every lesson is one to one, so the coach's eyes are on your child the entire time, never split across a group. We keep sessions to a length that suits a toddler's attention span, because short and happy beats long and tiring every time, and water safety is woven into the lessons from the very beginning. We offer flexible weekday and weekend timings to fit around nap times and family life, and we can teach in English or Chinese with a choice of male or female coach. Our coaches are patient, warm and first-aid trained, which is exactly what little swimmers need.

Safety first

Water safety for young children

In a country full of condo pools, beaches and water play areas, being comfortable and safe around water is one of the most valuable things you can give a young child. Toddler lessons are not about producing a competitive swimmer. They are about building the early habits and confidence that keep children safer: knowing how to hold the wall, how to turn back to the edge, and how to stay calm rather than panic when their face gets wet. These foundations, learned gently and early, make every future swimming lesson easier and give parents real peace of mind whenever their little one is near the water.

Start young

The benefits of an early start

Starting young has real advantages. Toddlers who spend regular, happy time in the water tend to grow into children who are relaxed and capable swimmers, without the fear that can build up when learning is left until later. Beyond safety and swimming, the early sessions are wonderful for a toddler's development: they build coordination and strength, encourage listening and following simple instructions, and give your child a real sense of achievement as they master each small new skill. Just as importantly, they are fun, and that early enjoyment is what turns swimming into a lifelong pleasure rather than a chore.

The first few months

What to expect over the first few months

Every toddler is different, so progress is never a straight line, and that is perfectly fine. In the early weeks, much of the lesson is simply about your child feeling happy and safe in the water with their coach. As trust grows, you will start to see the small milestones: blowing bubbles without fuss, floating with a little less support, kicking across a short distance, and climbing out safely on their own. Your coach celebrates each of these with your child and keeps you informed, so you always know what your toddler is working on and can share in the little wins.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

My toddler is nervous about water. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Plenty of toddlers are cautious at first, and gentle private lessons are the best way to help. Your coach moves slowly, keeps everything playful, and lets your child set the pace until the water feels fun rather than frightening.
What age can my child start?
We generally teach toddlers from around two years old. Readiness varies from child to child, so if you are unsure, get in touch and we will help you decide.
How soon will my toddler be swimming?
At this age we are not aiming for independent swimming. We are building the water confidence, safety habits and basic skills that make learning to swim easy later. Every child moves at their own pace, and your coach will always tell you honestly how your toddler is getting on.
Do I need to be in the water too?
Often yes, at least at the start. A parent nearby helps a toddler feel safe. Your coach will guide you on how involved to be and will gradually step your child toward more independence.
Where do the lessons take place?
At your own condominium pool where possible, or a suitable private pool near you. A familiar, quiet setting makes early lessons far less stressful for little ones.
How long is each lesson?
Lessons are kept to a length that suits a toddler's attention span, keeping your child happy and progressing without getting overtired. Consistency matters more than long sessions.
What does my toddler need to bring?
Just swimwear (a swim nappy if needed), a towel, and goggles if your child will wear them. Your coach will let you know if anything else would help.
